R-7 elementary schools utilize Response to Instruction to meet the education needs of each child.
This instructional model has been used successfully in various states and school districts across the U.S., and is supported by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Research indicates that this model provides more information about a student’s learning and his/her response to instruction.
All students are assessed in skill based areas. Small instructional groups may be designed to target specific skill deficits. Data is collected weekly to monitor progress and guide instruction. Students move through a tiered model of support based upon their need for additional instruction. RtI’s primary objective is to provide immediate intervention where needed to maximize learning.

The Lee’s Summit School District has adopted the BIST model as the district discipline philosophy. We believe that students and teachers have the right to learn and teach in an emotionally and physically safe environment. Our goal is to teach students to make appropriate choices and take responsibility for finding reasonable solutions for problems that may occur. It is our hope that parents will join with the schools in providing support to help students learn to make positive behavior and life choices.
